Welcome!
We are a community of Christian faith rooted in our Baptist Heritage and welcoming of people from every faith tradition and background. Our members are conservatives and liberals, old and young and middle-aged. Some of us grew up here and have worshiped in this place for as long as we can remember. Others have moved here more recently. Some of us prefer the great old hyms played on the pipe organ, while others of us prefer the piano, and still others are into praise choruses. We say that we have something for everyone here, but that something isn't a matter of style: that something is the presence of Jesus Christ.
Covenantal, not Creedal
At First Baptist, we are a covenantal community. That means that we are formed around a common promise to work out our Christian faith together and support one another as we reach out to each other and to the world with God's love and grace. We take the Bible seriously as our guide for faith and practice, but we have no creed or dogma or "Statement of Faith" that everyone must sign onto. Each of us comes into this community at a different point in their journey with God, and our goal is to help one another become more faithful followers of Jesus' way.
Denominational Affiliation
We are affiliated with the American Baptist Churches, USA. (American Baptists were formerly the Northern Baptist Convention.)
